Quito
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is nestled in the Andes at an elevation of 2,700–2,850 meters above sea level, making it the second-highest capital in the world. Located about 40 km south of the equator, Quito is surrounded by majestic volcanoes, including the active Pichincha. The city is renowned for its well-preserved colonial architecture, and its historic center was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. Quito enjoys a temperate climate, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 °C year-round. The best time to visit is the dry season from June to September.
