Lanzarote Airport is a Spanish airport, located about 5 kilometers from the center of Arrecife on the Canary island of Lanzarote. The airport is also known as Guacimeta, from the historical name of the region. The history of the airport dates back to 1936, but civil flights started just after the Second World War, in 1946. Due to the rapid development of tourism industry, the port has gone through numerous modernizations over the years. In 1999, a new terminal operating 6 million passengers a year was launched. Currently, the airport has two terminals - T1 serves domestic and international flights, and T2, which serves flights between the islands of the archipelago. The port plays an extremely important role. It serves millions of tourists visiting this attractive island every year. The airport serves almost 50 regular, low-cost and charter airlines, generating passenger traffic on a yearly basis of over 6.1 million, what puts them in the top ten most visited airports in Spain.
