Blue Air

Blue Air has been operating since 2004, now offering flights to over 100 direct routes in Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The company has nine operational bases, in Alghero, Bucharest, Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Iasi, Larnaca, Liverpool, and Turin.

Blue Air has received the certificate of IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) from the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) for its outstanding operational standards and it is also a full IATA member.


Regardless of the chosen travel class, Blue Air passengers can take onboard one hand luggage, free of charge. Purse, bag for camera/laptop have to be packed in the hand luggage. The hand luggage should not exceed 10 kg in weight and 55 x 40 x 20 cm in size.

Passengers can have up to 4 pieces of checked-in luggage, each piece should not exceed 32 kg in weight and 100 x 80 x 30 cm in size. The allowed weight depends on the chosen booking class (20 kg for the Classic travel class and 32 kg for the Premium travel class). 

Travel classes

Blue Air offers 3 travel classes: Light, Classic and Premium, all of them providing free of charge check-in.

Light class is guaranteed for lowest fares and one hand luggage included in the price.

Classic is dedicated to people, who travel with additional small checked-in luggage (20 kg) and want to choose their seat. Passengers also have 50% discount for date or route change fee.

The Premium class offers passengers a larger checked-in luggage (32 kg), they aren’t charged for booking changes, can choose a comfort seat, as well as (on most routes) receive free meals. 

Online Check-in

Free online check-in opens 30 days before departure. It is worth remembering though, that you must do the check-in no later than 12 hours before the scheduled flight. In case you change your booking, you have to do the check-in again. Online check-in is possible almost on every route covered by Blue Air. Exceptions are flights from, among others, Lisbon, Palma de Mallorca or Tel Aviv. The full list is available on the carrier’s official webpage. 


The Blue Air fleet consists of 30 narrow-body passenger planes Boeing 737, series 737-300, 737-400, 737-500, 737-700 and 737-800. Characteristic white-blue aircraft have between 120 and 189 seats.

In 2017, the company announced the firm order for twelve Boeing 737 MAX 8, that will enter the fleet starting with Q2, 2019.


The main base of the airline is in Bucharest-Otopeni (Henri Coandă International Airport). It is the biggest airport in Romania, serving domestic and international flights.

Around the area of the airport, there are numerous shops, cafes, Internet spots, as well as a chapel.

The distance between the airport and Bucharest city centre is of 16.5 km. Tourists can cover that route by train, bus (final stop is Gara de Nord), taxi or rented car.

Worth mentioning is that Blue Air has operational bases in other cities as well, such as Bacău, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Iași (Romania), Alghero, Turin (Italy), Larnaca (Cyprus) and Liverpool (the UK). Each of these bases creates connections between the most important cities in Europe.


Blue Air offers its passengers sweets, snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as hot and cold dishes. The carrier’s offer depends on the route. On some of them, passengers receive free snacks and drinks. Hot meals are be available on longer routes, as well as on flights to/from Bucharest or Sibiu, in which case passengers have to book the desired meal at least 12 hours before the scheduled departure time.

The gastronomic offer is diversified, so everyone can find something to enjoy. Passengers can choose from: Romanian / English breakfast, vegetarian menu and turkey / beef meals for lunch and dinner. Meals are available on most routes, but it is best to check the company’s website for further details. 

Additional services

When booking the Blue Air flight ticket, passengers have the possibility to purchase bus transfer, which is available for the following route: from Constanta or Brasov to Bucharest-Otopeni airport.

Passengers flying via domestic routes in Romania can take one piece of checked-in luggage of 20 kg, free of charge, and will receive a free snack onboard.
