    Mozambique
    Mozambique, in south-eastern Africa, borders six countries, among them South Africa and Tanzania. A former Portuguese colony, it gained independence in 1975. The country is divided into 11 provinces. The capital, Maputo, is its cultural and economic centre. Mozambique is a blend of cultures, including Swahili and Bantu. Average temperatures range from 20°C in winter to 30°C in summer. The best time to visit is between May and November, when the weather is dry and cooler.
