Madagascar
Madagascar, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, lies off the south-eastern coast of Africa. It is the fourth largest island in the world. After the break-up of Gondwana, its flora and fauna evolved in isolation, which is why more than 90% of its species are endemic. The official languages are Malagasy and French. The climate varies, and the best time to visit is May to October, when the weather is dry and mild. Ecotourism is a key part of the economy, although social development remains a challenge.
